Patrimony St VINCENT Cathedral |  St Vincent cathedral was an episcopal see up to 1801 ; Its base is Roman whereas its heights are gothic; Its façade rebuilt in the 19 th century was the first French neogothic one;
The figures in front of each paragraph can be seen on the opposite plan.
CHURCH WINDOWS
1- Window in grisaille, 16th century. The Virgin on a moon crescent, crowned with stars : a representation of the Virgin of the Apocalypse. This theme was copied on a modern window of the North aisle; 2- The choir windows : first level : 16th century windows about Christ's life : (the Presentation, teaching the doctors of the law, the Last Supper, Crucifixion, Resurrection….) 3- Second level with 3 deacons : in the centre St V, right St Stephen, left St Laurence.
CAPITALS
4- In the choir : Emmaüs pilgrims (Luke, 24) Maria Magdalena and the risan Christ (John, 20) 5- Legendary representation : Alexander's capital : character holding 2 spears, sitting on 2 griffings (6th bay when starting from the transept) 6- Caïn and Abel's drame and the tree of life (2nd bay when starting from the transept) 7- Take some time to have a look at the different and interesting floral and animal capitals. Also watch those of the triforium in the choir where each human representation is different.
FURNITURE
8- Tryptych of Richard Tassel (1608) : Christ on the cross and angels between St Anatole and St Loup, bishop of Chalon (around 800). Pieta in grisaille on the back of the altarpiece. Next, in St Anne's Chapel, painted roman altar, the oldest of the cathedral.
At the main entrance, 2 fonts carved in a monolithic stones : 9- on one of them carved ram heads; 10- on the other one carved lion heads.
STATUES
11- Beautiful pieta of the 15th century in the South side chapel, beheaded by Huguenots in 1562 12- Entrance of the third chapel in the North aisle : 2 polychrome wooden statues : Ste Reine and St Lawrence. 13- Wooden Christ of the 17th century
EUCHARISTIC TAPESTRY
14- This 16th century tapestry, intended to decorate the front of the donors' house, in Chatelet street, on Holy Sacrament processions, was used as a backcloth to the altar of repose as shown on the central design. It represents the mystery of the Eucharist : its institution described in the gospels and prefiguration in three biblical scenes. Top left : Melchisedech (which means “Justice”), King of salem (“peace”) offers Abraham, father of Jewish, Christian and muslim believers, the sacrifice of bread and wine; Bottom left : manna falls from the sky at Moïse's prayer, with his stick held to the cloud : some mysterious food lasting but a day.” Give us today our daily bread”. Bottom right : Jervish Passover : Hebrews standing and holding their sticks are lating Paschal lamb and bitter grass, the classic food of walkers. Top right ; The Last Supper : Institution of Eucharist during the last meal of Christ and his apostles.
FRESCOES
15- North absidiole dome : a 15th century fresco : Christ and the four evangelists 16- South aisle chapel : 16th century distemper wall painting : the Virgin Mary's Assumption and Dormition. Nine angels are unrolling phylacteries showing passages of a latin Song of Songs;
OTHERS
2 paintings by Bernard Lépicié ( Jeune Foucade Chapel) : St Stephen as a deacon is kneeling, a martyr palm in his hand while an angel brings him the crown of Elects. The Depositon. Eucharistic cabinet 12 bronze branches, a work of R. Right (1984) Chapels closed by stone bars
